NEWS Limited is expanding its digital operations after signing a multi-million-dollar data centre deal with Macquarie Telecom.
The publisher of The Australian is to become an anchor client at MacTel's new Intellicentre 2 data centre under construction at Macquarie Park in Sydney.
David Cameron, director of News Limited's IT operations, said the contract would free up capacity at News's main data centre in Surry Hills and prepare for future business needs.
He said News Limited would move its operations out of MacTel's Intellicentre 1 facility in Sydney's CBD. "It's a bit of a watershed for us in that we're going seriously into co-location to free up resources in the main data centre in Surry Hills," he said.
The value of the contract has not been disclosed but MacTel hosting chief Aidan Tudehope said it was the biggest in the carrier's history.
MacTel has invested $60 million in the 20,000sq m facility, which is due to open by June.
