I quite agree cheech. "Honest John" will go down in history as the most treacherous of Australian PMs. By appealing to people's worst instincts he has led Australia down the path of racism and bigotry. He has, in the eyes of the world, shown us up to be mean spirited. He has failed to support the UN when it most needed the support of sensible western countries.
When it comes to the majority having voted for him. I'd look again. In fact, on a first past the post system there was not much between liberal and labor at the last election.
