re: Ann: Delivery of Further Positive Oxycodo... My mistake, it's ALZA and Jaansen Pharmaceuticals, not Endo that are the J&J subsidiaries that market the Duragesic patch.

Interestingly, POH had a development and funding agreement with ALZA back in 2005 to "determine the feasibility of delivering a number of compounds nominated by ALZA using Phosphagenics' patented transdermal delivery system, TPM-01."

I don't know what became of this agreement, but I rather think that fentanyl would likely have been one of the compounds tested, and moreover, I suspect that whatever the results were in 2005, those results could be substantially improved upon today, in rate of delivery, safety, abuse resistance, duration of wear, etc..

ALZA and J&J could certainly use TPM transdermal technology. They are still being sued for wrongful death due to leaking patches; another wrongful death lawsuit was brought as recently as last month. It's important to note that the death in question occurred in 2010, many years after the patches were discovered to have a risk of leakage of lethal quantities of fentanyl.

Whether J&J wind up licensing the oxycodone patch or not, I think that not only will physicians switch their oral oxycodone patients to the patch, many physicians will also switch their Duragesic patch patients to the POH oxy patch for safety reasons.
