Shorting is fine. Ultimately, it reduces volatility and eventually you get to the right price. It also counteracts those manipulating the price up. It can be a pain, but it only has transient effects.
I have very little doubt that Collie research was used to support a shorting thesis, as opposed to his research leading to a shorting thesis.
