One of Gillard's more significant problems, apart from her extraordinary keystone-cop/marx-bros level of serial incompetence, seems to be that she could never manage to connect to the people and thus establish the "popularity-based-cultish-dear-leader" style image that most socialist dictators depend on to keep their stranglehold on power and keep competitors from the socialist jungle at bay...
The equally failed and incompetent Rudd at least has a "common-touch" that seems mostly due to his ready willingness to play the foolish buffoon in front of the cameras... You might have seen his cringe-worthy display of buffoonery in Brisbane recently...
