Penny, I got a good laugh from points 1 & 2 but I think 3 is the real reason.

When you open Paint, you should see a white rectangular canvass on a grey background. You might need to do a bit of scrolling, but find the lower right corner of this white canvass and when your white pointer cursor changes briefly to a black double-headed arrow, click and drag the canvass to the size of a postage stamp.

Now when you Paste your image, the canvass will automatically resize to accommodate your image.

When you "Save As", select the "Save as type" as a JPEG. I find jpegs are smaller than pngs, but it's not a big deal if you prefer pngs.
