Chiasm - good find with your link. It shows that the traditional owners are part of any proposal to turn it into national park and I beleive that IK and Co have a good relationship with these guys that could help with negotiations.
Kranky is spot on that mining occurs in some national parks. You will also see that the park Anna Bligh is proposing(which I don't think is part of this as it is much further south)doesn't rule out mining. It is anti agriculture but says it will consider banning mining after 12 months. In other words mining not ruled out.
I also think HM is right about a change of Gov for Qld and a possible change of tack away from the greens.
All in all, not the announcement we were hoping for, and the "sterile land" bit worries me but IMHO this could still turn out to be the big victory we were all hoping for. It's just going to take a bit more time to be confirmed.
Again good luck holders
