I think Dui that it is now accepted that we did not evolve directly from the great apes.
Abt 2 million years ago homo erectus diverged from the ape linage to stand upright and develop separately. Thus, while we are close cousins of the apes we are not direct descendants. This bipedal ape (Homo) migrated out of Africa all the way to Indonesia and developed a larger brain to meet the challenges of a rapidly changing environment. The fossil "The Hobbit" found in Indonesia is a closer relative than the apes.
