I am always either over-simplifying or over-complicating matters, or both - especially as now, when having a few beers.
The fact remains and cannot be ignored that Russia has a military base in Syria - with Russion soldiers in it.
They do not want to relinquish it - these are very hard strategic assets to acquire.
