Most small companies don't have a PR officer, and investors can often speak to the boss. They obviously can't tell you anything that hasn't been released to the market. But the exercise gives you an idea of whether they are b.s. artists, etc, and sometimes they can elaborate a little on information.
It's even better if you can go to the AGM and tackle them over tea and biscuits. Always good to see the sweat on their upper lip, etc.
