They have been drilling multi laterals in conventional oil for many years.
But we are drilling unconventional wells in tight shale and they have to be fracture stimulated, only go in one direction and are more expensive
Now could they drill another horizontal in a different interval using the same well. They probably could but I have never heard of one(but would be happy to be enlightened) With the high cost of drilling and Fraccing I doubt they would put the first Horrizontal at risk.
