The Prime Minister of Thailand, Thaksin Shinawatra, has been granted new powers to deal with increasing attacks by suspected Muslim militants in the south of the country.
In the latest violence, four people were injured in a bomb blast in the town of Yala.
Prime Minister Thaksin was determined as he went into the emergency Cabinet meeting on Friday morning.
"We have to be decisive in dealing with the militants who favour violence not negotiation," he said.
At the meeting he was granted new powers to detain suspects for up to seven days, censor newspapers and tap phones without judicial approval.
The emergency powers replace martial law, which was already in place in the region and can be applied throughout Thailand.

One thing that long discourse left out was that the muslim terrorism in many parts of SE Asia also has nothing to do with Israel or America.
There is a war going on in some parts of Thailand and the Philippines between their democratic governments and muslim insurgents.
Seems to be Islam inflicts itself on others everywhere by violent means.
