Whether this announcement was material or not, one thing is for sure, all shareholders know that PC does not know how to deliver good Press Releases and also does not understand the importance and the psychology and the value of a good PR versus a bad one.
I don't mind that Biota are playing this one close to their chests but, whether they are sticking to their guns on this patent because they definitely believe they invented this first, or whether they don't think they will win and are just doing this to play a little interference with Biocryst's programme, or whether they are positioning to make themselves a bit more known before they arrive on the US stage, they need to take the delivery of Press Releases far more seriously.
The main problem with PC is that he is a self-styled jack of all trades, but as the saying goes, he is a master of none. In this Day and age, a good CEO, whilst having great across the board experience, must still recognise that his/her staff and consultants are specialists in their given field and roles in the company and with this recognition comes an acceptance of the fact that they are each responsible to provide the best possible outcome for the company from what they do. If they don't perform well, they should go.
Peter, your job is to lead and to ensure that each person performs their job well, not to micromanage and stifle the jobs that your staff are doing. I'm sure he is not so much down in the lab with test tubes and this issue applies not so much to the scientists, but more to the business-related roles in the company.
By doing what you are doing Peter, you are also stifling the business.
Time to soul search and allow a butterfly to emerge from the cocoon and not a moth.
For those who remember the TV show, Peter, you are the weakest link...goodbye.
