I think you have a point there.
But I can see the point that Carlos is trying to make:
That if you are anti-west (as some of our confused US-haters are), then the only game in town right now is fundamental islam.
Just a means to an end for some of these fellow-travellers, who cares if you need to park your brain at the door to join in, once the evil west is gone, they can resume their oild ways.
