JoeIP: It was a Stehr driving the SBT project. He described himself as stubborn and arrogant, and attributed the SBT project continuing despite everyone saying it was crazy to these personal traits of his. If the Stehrs being out of CSS is a benefit, it is because they will start doing things properly rather than chasing uncatchable rainbows, but it's probably too late.

kev: CSS clearly doesn't have another few years, and even if it did, those 11 babies wouldn't be relevant (the 149 last season didn't amount to anything, neither did the ones in the previous season, or the previous...)

ploppy: It's not that simple. They've tried raising them in fish tanks before, this season is by no means a first, they tried it years ago with 100% mortality, as with every other season. If it was that simple they'd have managed to keep some alive by now. Perhaps they will keep a few alive this season, it wouldn't be all that difficult at all to get a small number through, but commercially it would still be irrelevant. To be commercially meaningful they need large numbers, not just a trivial few. Even if they get 100% of this season's babies through (which I absolutely guarantee they won't) it wouldn't be all that meaningful. They need to be able to get decent numbers through to the stage they're at now. Probably the most critical step of progress they need is to be able to reliably get thousands of tuna to the size their few fish are at now. It has always been possible to go out and catch small wild SBT and grow them up. The youngsters are the critical things to worry about, and whether it's 10 or 50 or 300 isn't really relevant, you really want to be talking thousands. To call it a success when they get an extra 11 to 30 grams is just silly. Is 160 a success but 140 a failure? Looking at such trivial things is nonsense.

big mahn: I see the pot is calling the kettle black. The very, very few positive things being said about CSS are along the lines of "SBT is endangered and they're trying to do something", "You have to have faith/don't be so negative/it's okay to dream" which is just silly, "Oh, their intellectual property and progress are awesome" which is beyond nonsense, and "This has come too far to fail" which is even further beyond nonsense. There are far more reasons, very very clear, obvious and tangible ones to consider CSS a terrible risk and an almost certain imminent failure.

I have to wonder if the pro CSS folk are actually serious. It is difficult to understand how anyone could actually think this company is worth investing in. I'm really finding it fascinating to watch the CSS story develop, and I can't help but wonder why some people are actively trying to speak positively about it. Do any of you have any knowledge of aquaculture? Does anyone actually think any of it is realistic? I'm wondering if it's just blind hope or faith after investing money in a company which is now worth a heap less. There are so many clear signs that CSS is in serious trouble, and no signs that there is any progress or reason to expect it.

Never fall in love with a company. Blind, unconditional love is the only explanation I can imagine for being supportive of CSS.
