MXL fortunes boosted by Kiwi grant
MXL — the Australian developer of the eMinerva student management system — has had its fortunes bolstered in New Zealand by the government’s release of $NZ8 million (about $A7 million) to help schools upgrade their student management software. A couple of months ago the NZ Ministry of Education selected MXL as one of its preferred suppliers, and one of only two that offered software via an ASP model (Rust Report, May 6, p4).

The NZ Government’s eSMS program aims to make a hosted, Web-based student management system available to some 500 schools that do not yet use computer systems. A further 2000 schools will also be eligible for funding to migrate to eSMS.

A spokesman for MXL said a pilot implementation of the eSMS program will begin immediately, prior to a full roll-out later this year. Completion is scheduled for the end of 2008. www.mxl.com
