Its unfortunate but true that extremely powerful vested interests want to stop any kind of environmental policies. The way they make money is by destroying and burning what the miracle of nature has created.
If they have to protect nature then they will make less pure profit. It's cheaper to overthrow a government with an ad campaign or buy out a major media companies than it is to save the environment.
Sadly, we live in a society where disadvantaged people vote against their own interests and fail to critically analyse just about anything.
