Let's call a spade a spade. The ALP under Rudd completely panicked when the GFC hit, and absolutley trashed our economic well being by blowing tens of billions on "stimulus" payments, failed building schemes, the pink batts fiasco, etc etc.
There was no unemployment problem. Banks got a guarantee to free up funding. Most of the money that was wasted was borrowed, and the government continues to this day to rack up huge budget deficits, which are being funded by even more debt.
They bloody panicked, blew the cash out of the bikkie tin, and now they have no money left to carry on, without taxing everything that moves.
