"wrong time of year"?

Yes we have had two big downs in 1929 and 1987, both in October.

But, we seem to forget the dot.com bust which saw the SP500 lose over 10% in the week beginning 5 April, 2000.

The dot.com boom saw its high in March, 2000 for the Nasdaq. And it went much lower than the April fall. But that fall in one week in April was very bad.

The Dow 30 hit a short term bear rally high on 28 April, 2008 at 13058.2. Ten weeks later it was 11100.5. A fall of 15 percent - not to be brushed aside as a mere blip. it was, of course, a precursor to the larger fall later in the year.

April is not such a "bad" month to pick for a "crash".
