Ok, I've read the article about Iceland/Uk. If not for CO2 levels, but looking after our planet, it's a very impressive project. It has a strong commitment and most importantly, it's Government backed, by this I a$$ume they're willing to contribute money and lead the way.
Then I read what Australia is doing.
"Some 70% of Australia’s pollution comes from coal power stations. Australia has access to abundant solar, wind, geothermal, wave and other clean resources, but we need polices to bring these technologies online."
Absolutely SQUAT. It was some panda sponsored drivel. It went on about BUSINESSES being expected to make the change, and $$$ wise also. I didn't read anything about our 'interconnection grid'??? I didn't read about any commitment to replace all Government owned polluters with clean energy. I speak for WA's Gov's Verve Energy. Surely we can replace that with a Thorium reactor within 15yrs??? Excuse me if my build time is out. In Australia we need to talk for 3yrs, do a feasibility for 2 yrs then scrap the idea because the data is out of date and talk some more.
I doubt it very much that the Australian Gov is going to do anything other than allow polluters to keep on keeping on and pay their way off and pass it on to households/businesses. A nation with all the tools(resources) and still using 'antiquated' solutions.
Also, I believe you stated we account for 15% of the world's emissions. Per capita we a the biggest polluter and are the 15th dirtiest nation but that's not to say we contribute 15%.
I'm cynical, but do we have any plan besides stealing wallets to pay for a GFC blowout budget?
