ASX Boards Gender Diversity Report: The Facts

New information released this month reveals that there are still 13 companies in the ASX 200 that have zero female representation on their boards.

With 17 female appointments compared to 40 male appointments so far this year, there are serious concerns that the ASX 200 won’t reach the targeted 30% representation by the end of 2018. Further, the Australian Institute of Company Directors gender diversity report indicates that at current rates, this milestone won’t be hit until 2019.

However, it is a big step in the right direction – in 2009, the AICD reported that women made up only 8.3% of ASX 200 boards.

Key commentaries:
- ACID has set a target of 30% female board representation by the end of 2018
- From a pool of 1,479 directors, the AICD is asking for 70 male directors to be switched with 70 female directors
- 13 ASX 200 companies have no women on their board
- 64 companies in the ASX 200 have just one female board member
- The AICD publishes monthly statistics on the number of women on ASX 200 boards
