I was in Melbourne's Bourke St Mall this afternoon and purchased at MYR.
The 6th floor toys section was busy given its school holidays, while menswear on the 4th floor was doing a steady trade, though a midweek day is not when MYR experiences its busiest trading in-store. Typically that's on weekends.
There were more Chinese shopping there than I expected, but they're unlikely to have been international tourists, a shopper demographic that thanks to our closed borders is missing, to MYR's (and others') chagrin.
The Melbourne CBD, at least in the Mall and east up Bourke St and south to Flinders St station was surprisingly busy while Metro trains had reasonable to good patronage. Again, it wasn't peak period.
Office workers won't be contributing much to life in the Melbourne CBD as the majority appear to still be working from home. In cities like Brisbane and Sydney that are in lockdowns, there'll be even fewer employees (or shoppers) in CBDs.
