Exactly. Just the bandwagon effect. Has no relevance to what/how/who the company is or what the fundamentals show. Just momentum trading. It's the most pitiful concept man has created and is simply a baseless, science-less ploy to try to make more money... However with enough money you can control the direction of a share price (shorting) and drag thousands of 'mum and dad' investors down with you, diminishing their hard earned retirement savings. It's a plague on the market - along with High Frequency Trades...
The stock market was invented for the purpose of being able to hold a stake in a company and be rewarded in the fruits of that company's activities due to your investment. It's now 95% a casino....
