Heyyyy Riverred - You don't seem to acknowledge at all the provisions of the EPBC Act 1999, NGER 2007 or ISO40001, which strikes me as very curious indeed.
I'm holding an Environmental Assessment Report by BHP Billiton - it's one from here (I can't be bothered to trawl thru again): http://alturl.com/5ctub - which I'm using to deliver a course on sustainability tomorrow. It's around 120 pages long, the complete document.
Instead of the 'rape & pillage' cliches re mining please do spend a bit of time looking at the provisions of the legislation which applies to commonwealth, federal land & all states - and maybe do some research on the requirements of a. rehabilitation of land and b. biodiversity protection
I don't like supertrawlers either - all the fish I eat as far as I'm aware is line caught - because I don't have to think twice about maintaining a personal & family routine which values & encourages sustainability.
Don't worry about 'greenies' - just get on with living the way we understand is as empathetic as possible to the environment & resource usage - life's too short ;)
