I am not sure if these numbers are correct but from Wikipedia...

    I am not sure if these numbers are correct but from Wikipedia USA gold holdings are stated as 8,133.5 metric tonnes. Tonne of gold is worth roughly US$48.86 million at US$1,519 per oz (rough numbers). So that's only US$397.4 Billion (assuming the report is correct and I didn't mess the calculation). Doesn't seem enough to return to the gold standard unless they got creative in a way that I can't think of.
