Just bringing up something that was discussed in the past. There are still very significant reserves and resources left in the Panguna mine even after operating for 20 years.
At the time of closure, BCL quoted an ore reserve of 496 Mt at 0.42% Cu and 0.55 g/t Au and additional material amenable for upgrading by screening that, combined, provide mill feed of 691Mt at 0.40% Cu and 0.47g/t Au.
If we assumed ROM at 40 million tonnes there is probably enough orebody left for another 15 to 20 years of operations. One advantage would be minimal preparation of the pit with no pre-stripping required.
