A really smart move in my opinion, 3M can no longer call the tune as to what they recieve for their part of the patch, I ask you this, which is the enabling technology for this patch? is it the patch, of which there are more than one viable supplier or the TPM itself of which there is only one supply, this move will make 3M think twice about how much they think they can charge for their component, especially if they want to get the suppy of the patches for the US, but it also gaurantees supply as someone else already said, more than one manufacturer makes total sense.
