My understanding is that its a weak acid solution to separate the lithium from the beads and that it can be recycled. The notion that this has yet to be proven at scale is not a worthy argument to make. No new development be it airplanes, cars, atomic power, vaccines the internet whatever have been proven at scale until they are proven at scale. If we never invested in things unproven then where would we be? We would all be walking around because at one point the wheel was unproven at scale. This is such a nonsensical argument to make. Nothing is done until it is done.
I think that the water in the solution is recycled as pointed out above the acid bonds with the lithium to become Lithium Chloride
