Companies such as Microsoft, Apple and Amazon, which took huge hits during the dotcom crash – Amazon was devalued by more than 90 per cent over the course of the crash – turned out to be great investments, even for people who bought during the bubble, he points out.
(At its 1999 peak, Amazon traded at $US133, before crashing down to $US5.51 in 2001. Adjusted for this week’s 20-to-1 split, Amazon shares bought back then are now worth about $US2400 each.)
