For me the BNPL offers an added layer of security when shopping online, no need to put credit card details in, simply click Afterpay then it takes you to Afterpay login (which I do with a thumbprint on my phone) then click accept and voila you've paid for your product. It's so easy and actually speeds up payment, with the added benefit of security not having to give a merchant your credit or debit card info.

From a merchants perspective. I have family that own businesses (fashion retail) and have adopted BNPL with open arms as they've all told me it increases a customers basket size Not only that but a customer who ordinarily may not have purchased on the day due to not having been paid can now purchase more freely. There is a cost to the merchant but not much more than what Amex would charge!
