Going on from where "demand picked up during a time when cashflow for the average person was constrained" . With Interest rates hikes poised to come this year for both Australia & SEA countries and with ever increasing inflation, I would assume more consumers would look towards BNPL as a immediate relief towards their finances. This will definitely spark demand in the sector as more consumers would want to use their services now than ever.
"As for other Asean countries, Maybank IB has kept its 25 bps interest rate hike projection for Thailand, while expecting a bigger hike in Indonesia (75 bps) and the Philippines (50 bps)." We are seeing interest rates hikes in SEA countries, where the average household income is far lower than countries like Australia, so therefore any hikes would put a significant constraint on house hold expenditure. This is where BNPL in SEA countries would prosper as the need for immediate finance would be allocated to consumers based on their credit checks.
IOU is poised to reap the rewards from these hikes in Malaysia as well as Indonesia as they have previously mentioned expansion plans there.
