Deb Martin is simply talking for the press:
"Ms Martin presented a submission about why
Forest & Bird was taking the case to the court.
She said that 20 years ago the area was put into
conservation land and Forest & Bird had thought it
was safe and sound until the mining permits were
sought."
For example that statement is complete rubbish - Solid Energy have a mining permit on the middle of the Denniston Plateau which was granted in 1987 (anyone can find out this info on the brilliant NZ Petroleum & Minerals website - http://www.nzpam.govt.nz)
