The VAS NAV has tracked the ASX 300 pretty closely today: both are up (just less than) 0.9% for the day.
The last traded price of VAS generally won't track the index as closely as the NAV on a short timescale. For whatever reason, people will buy & sell ETFs at some distance from the NAV. For example, the closing price of VAS last Thursday was $88.00 which was a 0.84% premium to the NAV of $87.27.
