By a previous agreement entered into as a contingency to the deal and confirmed over the weekend, Qantas and a group of brokers and banks have agreed to underwrite the Qantas share price to avoid it falling to its expected level of around $3.80 cents a share in theevent of failure like today.
So called buying in at "support levels" or support buying by brokers and banks to protect their own positions is both insider "trading and acting in concert" which is an offence that carries both criminal and civil penalties. Yet ASIC and the ASX remain deafeningly mute.
Had this 'principle' been allowed indiscrimnately to all we would not have collapses and we could all live in a world without defaults and failures. The Treasurer cannot afford for this deal to fall because of his cavalier attitude and his sucking up to big business and whole hearted support of the take over before the take over and before an election.
We have to keep harrassing ASIC and the ASX with respect to the breath taking latitude big companies are allowed to breah the law with impunity. Keep the rage alive. let the market decide.
