Since this project began much work has been done to design the most efficient and cost effective power take off unit for use across the industry. Financial incentives have been awarded to speed up the process, especially in the UK.
It leads me to think that the PTO being trialled for Ceto 6 may not have a long life in future Ceto models. The article mentions a hydraulic PTO but just recently there have been several breakthroughs that appear to be simpler and more effective, some of which were mentioned on the power take off thread a few days ago.
Having said that, Ceto 6 is merely the vessel that will carry the energy producing components. There is nothing to prevent CWE from adopting superior PTOs down the track.
Proving that the Ceto 6 buoy can be a reliable and efficient vessel is the first step. It could be compared to the car or aviation industry in that respect. The changes that occur to the power plants that go inside the vehicles are what define the industry, not so much the platform that carries them.
Call the Ceto 6 buoy a vessel, vehicle, platform or whatever, it will be the internal organs that will make all the difference.
