I agree with the entire philosophy of what you are saying, and it’s all good, but sometimes when companies attempt to do a little bit of everything as you have noted, this spreads the cash so far that it then doesn’t really impact anything… therefore with no net result.
Make an impact, by going hard on divvies, share buyback or large investment, that gets people talking and investing, therefore producing a stronger outcome.
Personally, I do not care much for a strong cash balance sheet in a large corporation. Even though we have cyclical times as experienced the directors would understand the many solutions out… capital raise etc. Strong cash balance is really a risk thing for mum and dads with a mortgage to stress about.
