For me, buying an EV is investing beyond dollars and cents. Apart from saving $5000+ a year on fuel and servicing (and trading in my ICE before its value plummets over the next few years), I'm providing market support to the broader switch to renewable energy. Australian homes are providing a huge amount to the grid that is enhancing the investment potential for other renewable projects while also weakening the already diminishing returns on fossil fuels. The geopolitical payoff of energy independence has economic and financial benefits as well as social and environmental benefits (which have their own economic and financial benefits).

I'd rather end up a few bucks out of pocket while supporting the electric economy than save a few bucks by holding on a long as possible. My kids will think better of me if not for all the other payoffs of my investment.
