Yes, if there was a player comparable to Robert Flower in all round ability and smarts as a player, it was James Hird. The great Tulip's career was marred by never playing in a granny, as he so deserved, Hirdy, he'll always be remembered as the demi-god who crashed to Earth.
Anyway, I recalled yesterday those incredible runs by Melbourne at the pointy end of seasons 97 and 98 pretty much sealed who'd be the premiers - whoever the Dees played in the semi, it would not be. Given how great Hawthorn and Carlton were at the time, that was some achievement for an improving but middling team. And much of that incredible energy came from wanting to do it for Robby Flower.
Brissy has two football teams in both Grand Finals. Incredible. Imagine if they both win.....or lose.
