What many have got wrong in my opinion is that they have simply equated the forecast growth in the number of EV’s to a corresponding “demand” in growth profile for Lithium.
As one grows, demand for the other must grow right?
Wrong.
Very simply there are 5 or 6 determinants of “demand” for a product:
price of a good
Income of consumers
prices of related goods
Consumer preferences
Future expectations
Number of buyers
Sentiment
All are inter-related. It is far more complex and nuanced than most media commentators present.
However - a good sales pitch if you didn’t understand it and wanted to pump Lithium stocks would be - “look at the forecast growth for EV’s - demand for lithium will go through the roof…”
Cheers
