How do you become a trend following professional ?

Good evening my esteemed friends.

Another great day when millions of Australians pursued their remunerative occupations.

The highly respected Societe Generale Trend Indicator captures the performance of all fund managers who pursue trend following methods (i.e. all systematic investors/traders in the trend following, CTA, managed futures space)

As of the 7th of July, 2023 the performance of the trend followers has been woeful (to put it mildly)
YTD, they have underperformed the S&P 500 by a massive 24% in the space of 6 months.
Over 20 years they have recorded an annualised return of 1.8% - LOL (try retiring on that, my esteemed friends)

Q: How do you become a trend following professional?
A: If you can underperform the S&P 500 by less than -24% in 6-months, YOU ARE GOOD TO GO !
