using ato basic discount method:
if you make $100k gain and held for less than 12 months, and you're top marginal rate of 45%, tax man will take 45% = $45k
if held for more than 12 months you get 50% discount on cgt so 22.5% goes to tax = $22.5k
if portfolio is in smsf then top rate is 15% to tax man if less than 12 months and 7.5% if more than 12 months.
