Because its been proven to be safe from the trials which means it can very likely get emergency use approval funding from the FDA. And it works with covid. A new compound would need to go through further efficacy and safety trials...it will be too late to the party slow to the show. Brilliant idea actually, should have done it 2020. The new strain would be a good test case too.
It gets FDA approval from human safety HIV trials for covid use. Then back to HIV. Two birds with one stone.
