good to see someone taking an interest in the science of our product, rather than just the price projectory; after a//, the /ater is dependent on the former.
But your questions are worthy of a more substabtia/ response than I can muster just now. Being a creature of the night, my day is comp/ete at this /ate hour; mango season both sustains and drains me. Besides that, my keyboard letter 'L' is not working, and /'m re/ying on my onscreen keyboard, which keeps dissappearing and taking minutes to reopen. /'// get by /ike this instead.
/ have been considering putting together a piece about the reationship of the HIV Vpu and SARS-2 E, both being the viroporins that you remind us of. They do p/ay simi/iar ro/es but not identica/, as HIV and C19 are not identica/, even though both RNA viruses. For a quicky though, we can say a few things towards answering your questions.
BIT225 in HIV patients certain/y has exposed hidden infected ce//s, which may prove to be the beginning of the grai/. This has a/so caused beneficia/ immunomodulatory responses, and if we get the same in C-19 human patients, then 225 wi// be home and hosed. The forthcoming HIV tria/ resuts wi// be very te//ing, as wi// be the quicker outside US C-19 tria/ resuts, yet to begin.
E in SARS-2 certain/y is critica/ to deve/oping vira/ progeny, and going off ear/ier patents of the mechanisms that first demonstrated its viroporin function, as we as other research since, the interruption of this function does interfere with rep/ication. There are sti// though a /ot of unknowns about the extent to which attenuated E has on rep/ication. There are two other viroporins in SARS-2, athough these are V/P's - vira/ ike partic/es, and it is not known whether they can fu//y rep/icate E's structura/ ro/e. It is un/ikey that they can, from my reading, but one of the smart things about this virus is its way in which it's own proof reading of its genes he/ps it quick/y adapt.
For those yet not c/ued up on what E is, in its most basic description, it is a gateway type protein a//owing transfer of ions entry into host ce//s, and basica//y, 225 is to prevent this occuring. In doing so, both vira/ rep/ication and host entry is reduced, hopefu//y stopped, as it prevents the RNA from highkacking our DNA and reproducing.
Anyway, it's way past time when I must /ook at the wor/d from a different perspective.
Happy ho/ding, if you have a decent echo /ocation, or what you might ca// ears in the hominid wo/d. /isten up.
Not /ong now.
