Could you perhaps provide your references for these stats. Deaths from Influenza in the USA are reported by the CDC to be around 35,000 per year on average (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/United_States_influenza_statistics_by_flu_season) and in Australia normally a couple of hundred, though did peak in 2017 as you mentioned at 1181 (https://www1.racgp.org.au/newsgp/clinical/australia-records-zero-flu-deaths-over-past-12-mon).
The previous variants of Covid have been far more deadly than the normal annual Influenza variants. Anything quoting different on the interwebs is simply lying in order to sell something.
