I am mystified why you classify HIV as a “pandemic”, similar to SARS-COV-2. It is next to impossible to catch without engaging in sex with questionable partners, (homosexuals, bisexuals, prostitutes). It was almost exclusively within the gay community initially and once it’s mode of transmission was known, the gay community took responsible measures to safeguard themselves. In fact it is one of the very few viruses that went about doing things a responsible virus must never do, that is kill it’s own host in short order of time, (pretty dumb thing for a virus to do). If you want to be philosophical about it, it may have been a self limiting phenomenon by killing of it’s own hosts before it took off to any degree. Unfortunately big pharma got involved and invented ART, (anti retroviral therapy) thereby confirming it’s existence in society for who knows how long.
