re: in play Takeovers are for the patient. I have been playing takeovers for a long time thanks to my mentor Rene Rivkin. He was a genious at this game and I used to subscribe when he was around only for his takeover knowledge.
Generally, there is an offer, and the market gets all excited. Because of time to analyse etc they lose patience and dump the stock. Then you buy again. Finally, when all hope is gone a second bid comes in - Almost always.
Can't think of a hostile bid where a second bid was not present.
But these rules apply only to cash bids. Scrip is another ball game.
