My view is that bot trading is, by definition, insider trading. One party (the bot) has information (a buy or sell order at a certain price and volume) that the rest of the market doesn't have access to, and the insider (the bot) acts on the inside information. If this this holds true then bot trading is illegal.

Separately, but related, the ASX and all related parties should fix their systems so that these so called millisecond sized windows of opportunity that exist in the systems that the bots exploit are firmly closed and shut tightly forever. It can't be that hard.
