Not sure I believe that bit of logic - perhaps a small miracle occurs in the middle. I don't see self-interest disappearing. Perhaps churches will be taxed though I am not sure if much would be raised by that - there are a lot of poor churches out there as well as the odd rich one and taxing allows them deductions as well.
Reasoned decisions should produce the best outcomes, if evidence behind them is good and the self-interest of politicians can be moderated - they have a tendency to want to be re-elected and make decision that appeal to voters not always in the best interest of society. Otherwise there would be less disagreement between political parties and less "pork-barrelling".
