A pullback in the price is to be expected and a normal feature of any market. it could reflect some seasonality as well. The mid term fundamentals for coal remain very good, they reflect years of greentape and ESG hysteria which has led to underinvestment in new capacity, especially in high energy content coal. The most telling sign was the contract price that gelncore secured from the Japanese, who would have scoured the world for alternative supply and realised that it was scarce.
