I’mconfused! Bowen has said it’s in effect unconscionable for coal companies tobenefit from the increased coal prices owing to the Ukraine war. However, Newccoal before 24 February 2022 had been trading at about US235 per tonne.Consequently, why the reference to 125? Also, I note some have compared thatprice to the current price of $600. I had assumed that the cap being discussedwas US$125 not A$125. Am I wrong in this assumption? I know that Albanese has said that125 was needed as a cap to make any real difference to prices. This suggeststhat coal pricing is not a critical factor (if such a dramatic reduction isneeded to make a difference) and in any event why should coal companies sufferfrom the years of inaction by the Coalition Government?
